I have gestational diabetes! I failed a one-hour screeening and had to take a 3 hour screening to be sure I had it. For the 3 hour one I had to be fasting for 10 hours, drink a sweet beverage and sit for 3 hours, having my blood drawn every hour. Dave took the day off so he could come with me, as I'd heard bad things about the test. It went very smooth, suprisingly, although I was not happy that I couldn't drink water for 3 hours! Well, I guess I failed the 3 hour test too and now I have to change my diet and watch my carb intake. It turns out that the placenta produces hormones that block my insulin from working so there will be more glucose in my blood to go to the babies (who need to grow alot right now). Pretty neat. Well, having two placentas blocks more insulin! And that means too much sugar in my blood. That's why I'll have to watch my sugars now, because I'm not processing them well.
Here's a picture of my diabetic dinner that will help me reach the 4000 calorie a day goal.

6oz of pork tenderloin, 1 cup of rice and 3 oz of spinach. The only problem is that I couldn't EAT it all!! So I ate half and drank half a meal supplement drink and a glass of whole milk! It should be fun to see what I have to eat going forward. I know I was supposed to eat about 4000 calories this whole time, but I stopped keeping track a long time ago, because it was so much food. I just figured I'd eat what I could get down every day! Now I'm back to trying to hit the calorie mark. Oye. I hope the weight comes off!!
